Company info
Akasol had its roots in the Darmstadt University of Technology's Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology back in 1989; but Akasol AG itself was founded in 2008. The company had its main manufacturing site in Darmstadt, Germany, but also opened a facility in Detroit, USA in 2019.
In February 2022, the company was acquired by BorgWarner, which was seeking to continue expanding its electrification portfolio. BorgWarner's interests in Akasol were in relation to commercial vehicle and industrial applications - not residential. But it appears Akasol home batteries went the way of the dodo long before the acquisition.
Akasol Batteries In Australia
Akasol's home energy storage product available in Australia was the neeoQube. This was a 48V battery with a nominal capacity of 5.5 kWh. It had a rated output of 5kW, but could achieve 12kW in short bursts (10 seconds). Its operating temperature range was 0° to +40 °C and could only be installed inside (IP 50 rating). The NeeoQuobe was compatible with SMA and Nedap inverters. A single neeoQube measured 456 x 280 x 456 mm and weighed 62 kg.
Akasol also offered the neeoSystem, which was a cabinet holding up to 5 neeoQubes for a total of 27.5 kWh capacity.
Warranty Details
The NeeoQuobe had a 10 year product warranty. If you're experiencing problems with yours, contact the company that installed it as they are responsible for warranty. If the installer is no longer around, try contacting Solar Energy Australia Pty. Ltd. for advice on next steps as they were the exclusive Australian distributor. If worse comes to worst, contact BorgWarner using the details above.
