Finn's NESL Panels Review & Verdict

Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO

Many Chinese solar manufacturers come and go – and Changzhou NESL Solartech Co. Ltd. came and went. It seemed to go out with a whimper rather than a bang as we haven’t been able to source any information about its demise or when it actually happened.

The NESL situation is an example of why it’s important to take care when choosing solar brands that you pick one where the company is likely to be around in the long run to honour warranties and provide ongoing support.

NESL Panels: Pros & Cons

  • Company no longer exists

About NESL

Changzhou NESL Solartech Co.Ltd. was founded in 2006 and was focused on the research, design, development and manufacture of solar panels.

At one point, the company was able to produce around 400MW of solar panels per year. Not much by today's standards, but early last decade it was a significant capacity. The company's factory was located in Wujin, Changzhou, Jiangsu, China.

What happened to the firm is anyone's guess, but the company's website address is now showing a biotechnology company.

NESL Solar Panels In Australia

NESL offered a wide range of modules engineered for the residential, commercial and utility-scale markets in Australia in both 60 and 72 cell configurations. It offered solar modules from a tiny 5W to 300W. Exactly when they exited the Australian solar scene isn't clear.

NESL Warranty Details

NESL panels came with a 5 year guarantee on material and workmanship - which was incredibly short, even for the time. A performance warranty covered 90% of original nameplate capacity after 12 years, and 80% after 25 years.

If you're having issues with your NESL solar panels, don't bother with trying to get them repaired. Given the company is kaput and the low cost of modules these days, get new ones from one of the solar panel brands I recommend that should serve you well for decades.

They sit there making 25KWH a day on a day with full sun in mid winter. I'm expecting more as the days get sunnier and longer. It is a 5 KW system but produce 4 and a bit KW most days in the middle of the day. Might be the angle of the roof which stop them from being up above 4 KW for longer each day. Not the panels' fault and not the installers fault. I am more than happy with how they sit nicely flush on my roof. They have to look good as well as do the job. AND they are doing the job. They are still producing 132 watts as the sun is half set in the afternoon.
