Finn's Jolywood Panels Review & Verdict

Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO

Priced more towards the budget end of the spectrum, Chinese-made Jolywood solar panels for residential applications haven’t been available in Australia all that long (since 2023).

That being the case, and with a lack of installer and customer feedback since, it’s hard to get a clear read on how they perform here—or the quality of support provided. You may want to consider other budget brands with a solid track record that I do recommend, such as Aiko, Jinko, Trina, or Longi.

Jolywood Panels: Pros & Cons

  • Priced towards the budget end with decent specs.
  • Comparatively short track record in Australia.

Company Info

Jolywood currently has four major business units: PV Materials, PV Cells, PV Modules, and PV System solutions. The company's solar panels are made by Jolywood (Taizhou) Solar Technology. The firm was an early adopter in the production of N-type and TOPCon solar cells.

In 2023/24, the company surpassed 10GW in cumulative global shipments of solar panels and cells. As at late 2024, Jolywood has a cell production capacity of close to 20 GW and an N-type TOPCon module production capacity of 10GW.

Jolywood Niwa Solar Panels

Among Jolywood's Niwa series of solar panels are modules that are suitable for home solar installations.

Jolywood Niwa Black

Niwa Black (JW-HD108N and JW-HD108N-R0), as the name suggests, are black or black frame TOPCon N-type panels available in capacities from 415 Watts to 450 Watts; while still staying below 2m2 dimensions (around 1.95m2).

Weighing approximately 24.5 kilograms, they are rather heavy. These are a dual glass bifacial module, meaning they can harvest light from the back side as well as the front, but the power rating is for the front side. Niwa Black in this wattage range have a temperature coefficient of -0.30%/°C, and an operating temperature range of -40°C~+85°C. Module efficiency is 22.53% to 23.04%, depending on the model

Jolywood Niwa Light

The Niwa Light (JW-HT108N-R0 and JW-HT108N-R3) TOPCon/N-Type series is significantly lighter at 20 kilograms, while the same size as the Niwa Black. The weight difference is attributable to being single glass, whereas the Dark series is double glass. Available in black or black frame, Light models suitable for residential applications are available in 425W - 455W capacities. They have a conversion efficiency of 22.77% to 23.04% and a temperature coefficient of -0.30%/°C. Unlike the Dark series, the Light is monofacial.

Jolywood Niwa Pro

The Niwa Pro (JW-HD108N and JW-HD108N-R0) is a bifacial dual glass black frame module available in capacities of 415W - 440W for residential use. These panels measure 1722mm x 1134mm x 30mm and weigh 24.5/.6 kilograms. Module efficiency is 22.53% - 23.04% and temperature coefficient is -0.30%/°C. Specification-wise, and wattage-to-wattage, they seem the same as the Black series - in fact, they share the same model numbers.

Warranty Information

All the Jolywood solar panels above come with a 25-year limited product warranty and a 30-year power (performance) warranty. The performance warranty allows for up to 1.0% degradation in the first year followed by 0.4% each year thereafter until the end of year 30, at which time the actual power output will not be less than 87.4% of the nominal power output.
