Finn's EGing Panels Review & Verdict

Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO

These are a budget module, but there are a bunch of good quality budget solar panels probably more deserving of your attention; particularly given EGing doesn't have an office in Australia. A local presence is important for support and warranty issues in case your installer disappears.

EGing Panels: Pros & Cons

  • No Australian office

About EGing

ChuangZhou EGing Photovoltaic Technology Co.,Ltd was founded in 2003 and is listed on the Shanghai stock exchange.

EGing Contact Details

The company doesn't list an Australian contact point. EGing's head office contact details are:

Address:No.18, Jinwu Road, Yaotang Town, Jintan District, Changzhou , Jiangsu ,China
Tel: +86-519-82585880
Email:[email protected]

Company Info

The company has two production bases, one in Changzhou and another in Chuzhou. The company says "we own about 3,500 employees", which is probably not a good way to note staffing levels. EGing states it has a production capacity of more than 25GW.

As well as manufacturing solar panels, the firm has experience in building and operating PV power stations. EGing says it also holds 145 national invention patents, 223 utility model patents and 3 appearance design patents.

EGing Solar Panels In Australia

EGing has dozens of models approved for use by Australia's Clean Energy Council, but none of their home rooftop solutions were listed on the company's residential products page as at November 2024. But datasheets are available from the company's "download center" page. For the purposes of this exercise, we'll focus on panels of residential size; i.e. less than or equal to 2m2.

Star, Star Pro, Star Pro+ Series

The Star series (EG-M54-HLV) are single glass mono PERC 108-cell modules, with efficiencies up to 21.51%, a temperature coefficient of Pmax of -0.35%/°C and are available in 410 - 420W.

The Star Pro series (EG-NT54-HLV), also single-glass, is available in wattages ranging from 425 - 445W and are N-Type TOPCon 108 cell modules with efficiencies up to 22.8%. The temperature coefficient of Pmax is -0.29%/°C

The Star Pro+ (EG-NT54-HRbV) series is available in even higher wattages. Also a N-Type TOPCon 108 cell module, it's available in capacities ranging from 440W to 460W, with efficiencies up to 23%. Their temperature coefficient of Pmax rating is -0.29%/°C.

All these panels are available in a silver or black frame.

Warranty

The Australian product warranty is 25 years (for rooftop installation) as of the date of delivery from EGing’s factory.

There's also a performance warranty that is 25 - 30 years.

  • For PERC monocrystalline single glass modules: degradation will not exceed 2% in the first year, and 0.55% per year thereafter; ending at 84.8% of nameplate capacity in the 25th year
  • For N-type monocrystalline single glass and double glass modules: will not exceed 1% degradation in the first year, and 0.4% per year thereafter; for a final minimum 87.4% capacity in the 30th year.

I had 16x EG-415M54-HL installed 1 month ago along with a SunGrow 5kW 3 phase inverter, and so far I am extremely happy with the performance. My inverter starts up each morning somewhere between 5am-5:30am and keeps going until 7pm. Perth gets the most sunlight out of any capital city in Australia, so I don't know why it took me so long before deciding to get panels on my roof!

The roof is small and unfortunately the installers were only able to have about 5 panels north facing and the rest east facing.

This means I get really good generation early on in the day, but it drops off in the afternoon. I an still really impressed at how much power the EGing panels are generating even at 4pm, it's more than enough to have the air conditioning and a bunch of other things on for free!
They did the best they could with the size and design of my roof! The installer was on time, professional and did an amazing job. It was trickier than what they thought it was going to be due to some cabling issues in the meter box, but with a no fuss additude they got the job completed. After sales support has been amazing, I had some over-voltage issues with the grid that I needed Western Power to sort out (who were also extremely helpful) but Grand Solar were there to help identify the problem and advise me how to get it fixed. I highly recommend this company for your installation.

32 × 415W EGing PV EG-(Series)M54-HL installed in December 2021. Good looking black panels with outstanding power. Facing north they produce significant power from 6:30 - 17:30 (Brisbane, March), and saturate the 10kW Fronius inverter between around 10:30 - 14:30, so the full 10kW power available for that period even with my low pitch roof (5deg only). Will see how they perform in winter and long term but happy with them so far. Hoping to have an Australian Eging office soon so would be chance for dirrect warranty, if any meeded.

We installed a 6kw solar system with EGing modules last summer. The black frame is nice looking and the performance is wonderful. It is really working well, I don't need to pay my electricity bill any more. During the summer, I can even earn some credit since the huge sun power in Australia.

Great panels 415W facing East and West, highly efficient, high performance in low light. So far I haven't paid any bill and have been receiving a lot of credit to use in winter. I don't have gas and instead opted for 3 phase power.

Save space on the roof. Our house is not big enough to put on 22 panels, but the new model just saved space and we got a full 6.6 system. Happy with the whole purchase.

Need to clean them every now and again to maintain performance as they get dirty from the dust. Very little rain over the year mean they don't self clean as much
