Finn's DAS Solar Panels Review & Verdict

Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO

DAS Solar hasn't been around for very long - 2018 since it was founded, and the firm has only had an Australian office since January 2024. We're yet to see many good local installers offering DAS Solar panels.

We'll have to wait for a bit to see not only how their panels perform on Australian rooftops, but also the quality of their local warranty support and after-sales service.

DAS Solar, founded in 2018, has multiple manufacturing locations in China, with a collective annual cell and module capacity of 30GW+ each. Boasting 7,500+ staff, the company has a presence in multiple countries including Australia where it opened an office in Sydney in early 2024.

The firm also has local research and development connections. In 2023, DAS Solar announced it would be partnering with the Advanced Photovoltaic Technology Research Centre at the University of New South Wales for the development of solar cells with an efficiency exceeding 30%. The " SFOS" super-efficient solar cells being developed in this project involve DAS Solar's silicon technology, which achieves an efficiency of over 26%, and the addition of a novel photoelectric conversion thin film material. According to DAS, these types of cells have a theoretical maximum efficiency exceeding 40%.

At All Energy Australia in October 2024, DAS inked distribution agreements with local firms totalling 750MW of PV capacity over 3 years for what appear to be large-scale projects.

DAS Solar Rooftop Panels

The company's solar panels best suited to residential rooftop applications in Australia that are also listed on the CEC's Approved Modules List are those from the DAS-DH108NA series.

These are a double-glass bifacial panel, bifacial meaning light can be harvested from the underside as well as the front. This isn't particularly useful for most residential installations given how close the panels are mounted to the rooftop and roofs often being a dark colour, but DAS-DH108NA modules are available in front-side capacities of 410 Watts to 435 Watts.

The DAS-DH108NA series offers front-side conversion efficiencies of 21% to 22.3% and have an operating temperature range of -40°C - +85°C. The temperature coefficient of Pmax is -0.30%/°C.

Module size for all DAS-DH108NA panels is 1722×1134×30mm, and they weigh 20.5 kilograms.

Another interesting line of panels is the DAS-LOJP range. These are a lightweight module available in 410W - 420W weighing just 9.9 kilograms, but are significantly larger than the DAS-DH108NA at 1985 × 1165 × 4mm. These types of panels are usually used on "skinny" roofs, that is roofing structures not capable of bearing the weight of a conventional models. While usually installed on commercial warehouses, they may have some applications for domestic sheds.

Warranty Details

DAS Solar provides a 25-year product warranty and a 30-year performance warranty for the DAS-DH108NA series. The linear performance warranty allows for 1% degradation in the first year and 0.4% annual degradation for years 2 - 25; ending with no less than 87.40% in the 30th year after the warranty start date.
