Finn's AE Solar Panels Review & Verdict

Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO

AE Solar look to produce quite decent panels, but with no Australian office and not much feedback from installers I trust, I can't recommend them at this point. A local presence is important in case you hit issues or have questions and your installer isn't around – you don't want to be going back and forth with Germany.

AE Solar Panels Available In Australia

At the time of updating this page (November 2024), the Clean Energy Council listed dozens of  AE Solar panel products on its approved modules list, which are eligible under Australia's Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). But not all of these are suitable for residential rooftops (i.e. under 2m2). Here are some that are:

Aurora Series

The Aurora Series (MD-108, MD-108BD and MD-108BE) use P-type PERC technology. They are available in various capacities from 395 Watts to 415 Watts, boast efficiency up to 21.28% and a temperature coefficient of 0.35%/°C. They measure 1721 x 1133 x 30mm, weigh 20.3 kg - 23.5kg and come in several variants - monofacial, bifacial, black/standard, black frame and silver frame.

Meteor Series

The Meteor Series (CMD-108BDS,  CMD-108BDE and CMD-108) are N- type TOPCon panels available in wattages of 430W - 440W. The 108BDS and 108 come in a silver or black frame and there's a choice of bifacial double-glass and monofacial. The 108BDE is black with a black frame. All have a module efficiency of up to 22.57% depending on the wattage/variant and all feature a temperature coefficient of -0.29%/°C. Measuring 1721 x 1133 x 30mm, the monofacial Meteor weighs 20.3kg and the bifacial modules, 23.5kg.

Warranty Information

With regard to the above, AE Solar provides a limited product warranty of 15 years in Australia

Performance warranties are:

  • For the P-Type monocrystalline PERC single-glass module products, first-year power degradation will be no more than 2.5% of nominal power output. From year 2 to year 30, degradation will be no more than 0.55%. By the end of year 30, the actual power output will be no less than 81.55% of the nominal power output.
  • For P-type monocrystalline PERC double-glass solar panels, first-year power degradation will be no more than 2.5% of nominal power output. From year 2 to year 30, degradation will be no more than 0.45%. By the end of year 30, the actual power output will be no less than 84.45% of the nominal power output.
  • For the N-type monocrystalline TOPCon modules; the first-year power degradation is no more than 1% of nominal power output. From year 2 to year 30, the actual annual power decline will be no more than 0.4%. By the end the 30th year, the power output will be no less than 87.4% of nameplate capacity

Note that warranty claims in Australia must be made through the importer of the panels. Your installer may be able to help with the process if they are still contactable.

While AE Solar has been in the PV game for quite a long time, we haven't heard much feedback on how their solar panels have been performing in Australia; so if you have AE Solar panels installed, please leave a review and rating.

Good Panels and high output. Corrosion resistant, long 25 year warranty on double glass panels and 25 year performance warranty. Look good and solid panels compared to the Trina's I have installed earlier on the same premises on an older system from 6 years ago. I would recommend to others and have as My parents got the same panels installed. I'm a Qualified Electrician and Engineer, who had a solar installer put them on my house for me, as I am not an CEC certified Electrician. For their price, warranty and build quality I couldn't fault them.
