Think about the city of Delhi and you're likely to conjure up images of opulent buildings, crowded streets and less-than-desirable traffic conditions – nobody would blame you for not associating the city with solar panels!
However, this could soon change as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation unveils plans to install solar panel systems at a number of stations throughout the city.
Not only this, but the Yamuna Bank depot is also set to go solar as the country hopes to reduce its reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
A Delhi Metro official told the Times of India: "These are plans for the initial phase to capture solar energy, which eventually will provide electricity using appropriate technology."
This announcement shows just how much potential solar power has on a global scale – if major corporations are turning to renewable energy sources then it's likely that others will follow.
The DMRC has said that if the initiative proves to be a success, then it will consider rolling out more solar panels in the near future.
