Parkes Shire council's initiative to make affordable quality solar power systems available to its residents seems to be working a treat.
The Solar Communities Program was launched in June with the aim of bulk purchasing domestic solar panels so that interested residents could benefit from their buying power.
It's the kind of promising news that pops up and then you never hear anything more about it. Luckily, the Parkes Champion-Post has provided an update on the program's progress.
Around 300 people expressed interest in the program, and since December 2012, Sydney-based Horizon Solar has been getting in touch with these interested parties.
How is Parkes Shire's solar installation rate going? So far over 400 kW of solar power panels have been bought by householders and businesses across the region.
Manager of governance and corporate planning Brad Byrnes said the council was delighted with how the program was going.
"It is encouraging that so many community members are being proactive about reducing their electricity bills and carbon footprint," said Mr Byrnes in an article published January 25.
The program continues, and is open even to those residents who didn't lodge an expression of interest last year.
Anyone within the 100 km radius pertaining to the bulk purchase arrangement can sign up with Horizon Solar.
