Following the announcement that Queenslanders should expect to see increases to in their electricity prices, Origin Energy has decided it will take a stand against the decision.
The Queensland Competition Authority's (QCA's) final determination on prices for the next financial year revealed that the cost of supplying electricity to customers would rise.
Origin Energy, however, warned that the decision could have a negative impact on the industry as well as investment in technology.
"This undermines confidence in investing in new generation in Queensland at a time when the state is experiencing significant growth in demand, in particular driven by the booming mining and resources sector," said managing director Grant King.
The QCA revealed that all regulated retail tariffs would be subject to the rise, with the only exception being the main residential tariff.
A competitive energy market is essential in helping keep our electricity prices low – and we could all do with some extra dollars in our pockets!
The likes of Origin Energy will have their own interests at heart, but a U-turn on the QCA's decision can't do us any harm either.
