While solar power is quite an Australian success story, some states are doing better than others when it comes to solar panel installations.
Sunwiz – an Australian solar consultancy company – has provided figures detailing the number of solar installations in each state, as well as each state's pv installation size and how many kilowatts of power they generate.
Queensland is unsurprisingly in the lead with 296,310 solar installations – a likely result of its Solar Bonus Scheme that gave Queenslanders great incentives to invest in solar panel systems.
New South Wales comes second in the solar stakes with 222,507 solar installations, generating 517,587 PV kW.
Northern Territory comes last with 1,980 solar panel installations, despite initiatives such as Alice Springs Solar City bringing more solar energy to the sun-scorched state.
Yet while there are fewer solar systems in the Northern Territory, the average size of its solar system installations is fairly large – coming in at 3.6 kW – compared to the national average 2.2 kW.
In total there are 987,020 solar panel installations spanning across Australia – nearing the one million mark! This generates a total of 2,413,077 kW.
