Finn's Swatten Inverters Review & Verdict

Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO

Without details of a local office published on their website that we could find, I’ll give Swatten hybrid inverters a miss—and you might consider doing so too. While your installer is the first point of contact if there are problems, an official local presence is really important if something goes wrong with your inverter, as it can accelerate resolution (or if your installer disappears).

Company Info

Swatten is a subsidiary of Sieyuan Electric, which was founded in 1993 and listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2004. Sieyuan claims to have 30 years experience in electronics manufacturing, 22 factories and more than 7,800 employees across the world.

Swatten SH Series Single Phase Hybrid Inverter

As at November 2024, Swatten had two single-phase hybrid models on the Clean Energy Council's approved products list - a 5kW (SiH-5kW-SH) and 6kW (SiH-6kW-SH) single phase hybrid inverter from its H1 series. A CEC inverter listing is necessary for Australia's solar rebate and in most cases, to get permission from a distributed network service provider (DNSP) for connection to the grid.

Swatten says the H1 can provide whole-home backup functionality and multiple modes: self-generated, zero power feeder (assumed to mean zero export), VPP, battery-free, and battery-free & gridless. It can switch to off-grid in under 10ms.

For backup loads on-grid, both models offer 6kW rated output, and for the off-grid mode - 5kW (SiH-5kW-SH) and 6kW (SiH-6kW-SH). These SH Series inverters have an ingress rating of IP65, an operating temperature range of between -25°C to 60°C, and use natural convection cooling.

Both models measure 500 x 350 x 180 mm and weigh around 20 kilograms.

The company notes these inverters are compatible with selected battery models from various companies including Dyness, BYD and Pylontech, but for a detailed list you should contact the company.

Swatten TH Series Three-Phase Hybrid Inverter

There are four three-phase Swatten hybrid inverters on the CEC approved products list - the TH series (SiH-XkW-TH) in 5kW, 6kW, 8kW and 10kW capacities.

These are fanless inverters with up to 98.4% efficiency, 2 MPPTs and <10ms off-grid switching time. These inverters measure 450 x 550 x 185mm and weigh 31 kg. The operating ambient temperature range is -25C ~ 60C, with no derating below 45C; and the degree of ingress protection is IP65.

Battery compatibility is as above.

You can compare the specs above with models from other manufacturers on SolarQuotes hybrid inverter comparison table.

Warranty Details

In Australia, all Swatten inverters are accompanied by a 10 year product warranty and accessory products including the WiFi module and smart meter have a 2-year warranty. Note that faults or damage caused by exposure to sea coasts/saltwater or other "aggressive atmospheres" or environmental conditions without Swatten’s written confirmation/approval prior to the installation will void a warranty.

If you've had a Swatten inverter installed at your place, please consider leaving a review and rating (button's towards the top of this page).

I am very happy with my Swatten system installed by OVO Electrical! My house is quite large, and we use a lot of electricity, so I was a little bit worried if the system would be enough. But after installation, I feel very relieved. It works perfectly, and my home energy is much more efficient now.

Our sparky recommended a Swatten inverter and battery, so we gave it a go. They kicked off the solar panel install around 8am. They started putting in the inverter and battery around 3pm, and by the time I got back from picking up kids, they’d wrapped everything up. The system looks pretty neat and compact. It’s all up and running straight away. We’ve clocked about 45kWh in generation recently.
