Finn's Sunny Roo Products Inverters Review & Verdict
Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO
Sunny Roo's inverters were a poster child for crap solar. If yours has somehow survived this long, you're one of the lucky very few. If you're looking to get a Sunny Roo inverter repaired – don't bother, just replace it with one of the good-quality budget inverter brands I recommend.
Sunny Roo Products Inverters: Pros & Cons
- Just crap
About Sunny Roo Products
Sunny Roo solar inverters were once imported in large quantities into Australia, however the importer went into liquidation in 2012. These inverters were plagued with problems; most commonly faults in power supplies, relays, DC connectors and fuses.
Sunny Roo Products' importer also found itself subject to litigation from SMA over the use of the "Sunny Roo" name. SMA said it was quite frequently contacted by owners complaining about Sunny Roo solar inverters, confusing them with SMA’s Sunny Boy products. SMA also alleged the Sunny Roo logo was "deceptively similar" to Sunny Boy.
The Sunny Roo situation was a hard lesson for both Australian installers and consumers to not skimp on inverter quality. It's a crucial part of a solar system; working day-in and day-out for (what should be) years under often harsh conditions. And if your inverter is out of action, so too is the entire system. It's also important to choose a solid company that's more likely to be around if you have a warranty claim years down the track.

Since then I have never had to pay a power bill, and we use the a/c ect as we want.
I have also received $300 back in payment of credit and still have $600 sitting there with another statement due in about 3 weeks.

I have noticed that since we had the solar systems installed the rebates have dropped dramactely and so have the price of the solar systems, but the quality of the cheaper systems could be a matter of concern.
