Finn's Omnik New Energy Inverters Review & Verdict

Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO

Omnik is one of the many Chinese budget inverter brands that has fallen by the wayside over the years. Thankfully, it doesn't appear many were installed in Australia.

Omnik New Energy Inverters: Pros & Cons

  • Company liquidated.

About Omnik New Energy

Omnik New Energy Co. Ltd., also simply known as Omnik, was Sino-German producer of solar inverters.

Founded by Zhao Lei in 2010 and headquartered in Suzhou, Jiangsu, the company had a special focus on string, hybrid and micro inverters, but branched out into other areas as well. Mr. Lei left the company in 2018 and things reportedly really went downhill from there, with the firm facing dozens of legal disputes. Omnik began a liquidation process in 2021.

Omnik Inverters In Australia

Omnik New Energy began exporting inverters in 2011 to Germany, UK, Australia, Italy, Spain and elsewhere. Its flagship product range was the Omniksol family, which was available in 1kW - 6kW capacities.

While a significant player in some countries, it doesn't appear Omnik had much impact on the Australian market, although the firm certainly took a good crack at getting its products in front of Australian homeowners. That's a blessing in disguise considering what happened to the company, but little comfort to those who own one of their inverters.

Exactly when the company's inverters were dropped from the Clean Energy Council's approved inverter list isn't clear.

Warranty Information

Omnik inverters were covered by a 5 year warranty, which could be extended to 25 years. But with the company hitting the skids, any warranty claims will be problematic. However, your installer has the responsibility of honouring the warranty - assuming they are still around you should contact them.

As for repairing Omnik inverters, it simply isn't worth the effort and expense. Consider a new unit; and the good news is quality inverters are significantly cheaper these days.

We had 3 inverters installed (one on each phase) at the same time by Solarworx Northern Rivers and due to location. 2 of the 3 have failed and the aftersales support from Solarworx has been dreadful on each occassion. On the first occassion we had to bypass Solarworx and go directly to Omnik to get action. The second time has been hardly any better. On this second occasion we have had to sort out another installer.
