Finn's MIL-Solar Inverters Review & Verdict
Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO
I love seeing Australian companies taking a crack at making quality solar products here at home. While the Mil-Solar Eclipse inverter is well-constructed, it has a short standard warranty for the price and ingress protection is less than some popular (and cheaper) Chinese brands.
It also appears that for whatever reason the Mil-Solar Eclipse is no longer on the Clean Energy Council's approved inverters list; so it’s currently not an option for grid-connection.
MIL-Solar Inverters: Pros & Cons
- Australian-made
- Quality construction (but needs to be protected from direct sun and rain).
- Expensive compared to Chinese inverters
- Short standard warranty for the price
- Currently not CEC-approved

Company Info
Australian owned and operated since 1987, Mil-Systems is a family business that has specialised in power equipment for military projects. The firm has also provided system engineering and product design services to the Australian communications and security sectors, and of course, solar industry.
In the Victorian Government's 2016 Manufacturing Hall of Fame awards, Mil-Systems was a winner in the Growth Sector Awards category. The company was a beneficiary of the Victorian Government’s New Energy Jobs Fund, which enabled the firm to develop its Eclipse inverters for the home solar market.
Mil-Solar Eclipse Inverters
Note that as at late December 2024, the Mil-Solar Eclipse was no longer on the Clean Energy Council's approved inverters list. This means it is not eligible for the solar rebate at this time, and DNSP permission to connect new units to the grid is unlikely.
These 5kW inverters have an operating temperature range of -25C to 50C. Optimal operating performance is achieved when the ambient temperature is below 40C.
While Mil-Solar Eclipse Inverters can be installed outside, their ingress rating is IP44, so they need to be sheltered from direct rain and sun. The wall structure where the inverter is mounted must adequately support its weight of 23 kg.
These inverters, which measure 514 x 512 x 150 mm, have 2 independent MPPT channels and a maximum efficiency of 97%.

Warrany Information
Mil-Solar Eclipse Inverters are accompanied by a 5-year standard warranty, which can be extended to 10 years for an added fee.
