Finn's JinkoSolar Inverters Review & Verdict

Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO

Jinko hybrid inverters look to be satisfactory for use with the company's Suntank battery system, although a little underpowered in backup mode (4kW continuous). They look like a rebadged Growatt inverter (just saying).

JinkoSolar Inverters: Pros & Cons

  • Reasonably priced
  • Blackout backup capabilities
  • Only 4kW output in backup mode

Company Info

JinkoSolar was founded in 2006, but it wasn't until much later that the firm expanded into energy storage - originally commercial & industrial and utility scale solutions. In 2022, Jinko launched its first home battery system, the Suntank, in Australia.

JinkoSolar Suntank Hybrid Inverter

The JKS-5HLVS-ABI series is for use with Jinko's Suntank battery modules (JKS-B51X-BI). Available in 3kW, 3.6kW, 4kW, 4.6kw, 5kW and 6kW versions with efficiencies up to 97.6%, this single-phase hybrid inverter offers up to 4kW output (depending on the model) in backup scenarios, with a switchover time of <16ms.

Naturally (convection) cooled, the The JKS-5HLVS-ABI measures 456 x 565 x 188mm, weighs 27 kg and has an operating temperature range of -25? ~ +60?. IP65 rated, it can be installed outdoors, but it's always wise to locate an inverter where it won't be in direct sunlight.

More specifications can be found on SQ's hybrid inverter comparison table.

It's worth noting Jinko doesn't manufacture its hybrid inverters. While it's not clear who the manufacturer is, they look very similar to a Growatt hybrid inverter.

Warranty Information

The warranty for the JKS-5HLVS-ABI is ten years - but that assumes it remains connected to the internet through Jinko's monitoring system.  The warranty is halved to five years if it is not connected. Note that the installation manual says it should be installed under shelter, out of direct rain and direct sunlight.
