Finn's Huawei Inverters Review & Verdict
Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO
Huawei inverters were a SolarQuotes approved brand until early 2024. They weren't removed from my recommended list for any reason other than their inverters stopped being shipped here.
But the good news is Huawei continued producing solar inverters for the Australian market, which are now branded iStore. iStore is a local company selling and supporting the products - and iStore is on the SQ recommended inverter brands chart.
Huawei Inverters: Pros & Cons
- Pricing was mid-range among SQ recommended inverter brands.
- 10 year warranty.
- No longer available in Australia (but see notes regarding iStore).
About Huawei
Huawei is a giant Chinese company that produces a vast array of products ranging from mobile phones to factory automation. They’re also a major producer of solar inverters and home batteries. In fact, in 2023 Huawei was the world's biggest inverter manufacturer in terms of units shipped.

Huawei Inverters No More (In Australia)
Huawei solar inverters (and batteries) were sold in Australia for quite some time but, as of February 2024, they are no longer sold here under that name. If you have Huawei branded solar inverters, there should be no need to worry because you shouldn’t be affected in any way:
- All Huawei warranties remain intact (see below)
- Products will continue to be serviced or replaced as required.
- The company is not leaving Australia and its offices remain open.
- Compatible products can be bought from iStore.
Items no longer being sold here under the Huawei brand include the Smart Energy Centre or SUN2000 solar inverters and the Luna2000 home battery.
Goodbye Huawei, Hello iStore
If you want a Huawei inverter or battery, you can get one that is fully compatible with them from iStore. The iStore solar inverters (and batteries) operate like the Huawei versions and also look just like them too. That's because Huawei make inverters for the Australian market for iStore; and inverter data is securely stored locally in Australia, not in China.
As I consider iStore to be a reliable company, you shouldn’t have any issues with the warranties for these new products.
Huawei Warranty Details
Huawei solar inverters have 10 year warranties. So do their batteries provided their warranted throughput limit isn’t exceeded. If you’ve recently bought one of these Huawei branded products, the warranty won’t be affected. Huawei will still cover the products they’ve sold.
If there is an issue a technician has to resolve, the person who comes out is likely to work for Huawei’s service contractor rather than the company itself, but this is a common business practice. So long as the job is done, it’s not an issue.
If you have a problem with a Huawei product you should first contact your installer, as they are responsible for it. If your installer is no longer around you can contact the company directly to make a warranty claim.
Regardless of what’s in the written warranty or what a company says, you are always protected by Australian Consumer Guarantees and these provide extensive protection.

Huawei is a reputable brand and the products do not feel cheap like other competitors of similar origin. I would recommend this combination as good mid-tier components.
There has been once unplanned power outage since installation and the system worked as expected - no need for torches and candles!

Up date
when it came time to install my system there was a problemho with the Huawei in the warehouse so I ended up getting a Growatt 5kw system.
I have no problem with this system.
Their replacement old for new inverter if there is a problem is excellent and works with a minimum of fuss as we were unfortunate to have one of their extremely low rate of failures.
Since the new replacement inverter was installed it hasn't' missed a beat !
