The city of Melton, located 35 km west of the Victorian capital Melbourne, has seen substantial growth in the past few decades. So much so that it is now considered a separate satellite city. However, its proximity to the sprawling metropolis means that it will soon be considered part of Greater Melbourne as the big city continues to develop westward.
Melton is a thriving cultural area despite its changing status. The area started as sheep paddocks in the 1830s, with the Victorian gold rush boosting the town in the 1850s as miners made their way further west.
While celebrating its past, the city has its sights firmly on the future; with Melton residents taking to alternative forms of energy including solar power. Between Melton and Melton South, more than 6,300 solar power systems had been installed by the middle of 2020, with a collective capacity of around 12.75MW. The equivalent to around a third of all dwellings in Melton have had a system installe.
The popularity of solar panels in the area has seen a number of good solar installers offer their services in Melton, including the pre-vetted companies listed above.
Local Council is also on the solar bandwagon, having installed a 99kW rooftop array at Caroline Springs Leisure Centre back in 2019 - here's hoping it doesn't stop there!
