A mixed experience and went with a non solarquotes company

I got three quotes with the main technical issue being significant shade that was only picked up by much more extensive satellite images from a 4th company (not recommended by solar quotes). Also, warranty was not a significant consideration for me, as its likely that i'll try to upgrade my panels in 5 years.

If the three solar quotes companies :
-sungen acknowledged the shade issues the best but the overly aggressive salesman left me unable to trust their quote. I lack technical expertise but when a salesman is so anxious for me not to consult with competitors, I become suspicious.

One thing that I did learn was that a larger system was not ideal for my setup, and I opted instead for a smaller system that avoided the worst of the shade, with a plan to potentially upgrade in 5 years as panel tech improved. I ended up going with an external company, MK solar. They were much more detailed in their quote and, although they set up a lower capacity system than quoted by the mk solar companies I was more confident of what returns to expect.

I found the online articles from solar quotes good for gaining a consumer level knowledge of what a solar system was. However I did not find the question lists as useful for separating competing quotes. They all had adequate answers to the questions in the list (as did the external company I eventually went with) but when it came to actual quotes I was very dependent on what they chose to tell me, or not tell me. As a result I judged it partly based on the impression I had of the salesman I was talking to that included levels of honesty, respectful behaviour and ability to respond reasonably to new information/questions/shade issues. Actually I've had to take this approach when dealing with competing quotes for other aspects of home renovations in the last year; I've been told massive furphies by companies telling me I need stuff that I didn't need at thrice the actual cost of what I should expect.

It was an informative experience, and I'm grateful that solar quotes has lots of material to learn about solar. But ultimately I didn't find any of the solar quotes companies to measure up adequately. Note that I would've gladly spent twice the money I ended up spending if I felt it was worth it; I have large power bills and plan to get an electric car.
