Original Review on 22-06-2010:

Products used were on the approved list but the inverters and solar panels were not any of the well known brands like SMA or Sony. Warrantys were the same but I suppose one never knows and time will tell. The system has been running for 2 weeks now and produced 164 kWh, which is not as much as we have used over the same period (220 kWh), but this is not surprising, seeing it's winter and we have had several overcast days. However, in terms of power cost/received we are obviously in front. 2 kW of panels are nth facing while the other 2 kW set of panels face west. 2 inverters had to be used.
Kangaroo Valley Solar we most helpful, did what they said they would (which these days is hard to find) and all their installers (up to 3) were friendly and polite. The second quote from Russell Seymour took a while and was a few thousand dearer, probably because of the use of SMA inverters and Sony(I think) panels. He seemed quite busy but turned up when he said he would, seemed very professional in his approach, as well as being easy to get on with. The 3rd quoter I didn't hear from.

27 months later we asked Flynn: "Are you happy with the performance of your system so far?"

Yes. The rebate worked out to give us, based on the capital outlay of the system, a return of 19% for the last financial year. Taking electricity use into account as well, it gave a return of 12%. Obviously this will change at the end of the 7 yr period, but the actual kWhs producted from our 4 kW system, was about 89.6% of the electricity used for the last financial year.

Original Review on 14-07-2010:

I guess our only real concern before proceeding was that there is still insufficient information available to truly assess the quality of the various systems on the market. Almost all offer the same warranty and, for the most part, only time will tell whether we have chosen wisely with respect to the long term performance and reliability of the system. Original ratings

Original Review on 19-06-2010:

We went with Kangaroo Valley Solar mainly because they are local to our area and they were prompt with a quote and wanting to come around and look at our house to see where the best place to put our panels would be. If anything goes wrong they are only 30 minutes away. Cathy and Mike were friendly, yet professional people to deal with. They followed up the quote with a phone call and nothing was a problem for them. They organised everything. I have no hesitation in recomending them.

We got other quotes from local suppliers - they were more expensive. We also got quotes from Sydney companies who were ridiculously cheaper - their explanation was they rely on high quantities of systems sold and used contractors to install. We took that to mean quantity NOT quality. We believe you get what you pay for. We are very happy with our system - our first bill with solar power paid for our usage in that period, and we are a family of 5.

27 months later we asked Mark: "Are you happy with the performance of your system so far?"

We did think we would get more kwhours per day out of our system..especially in spring -summer...but we didn't really have a great deal of sunny days last year. Hopefully this year will be better - given the el nino summer we are meant to have. Our very first bill when we installed in Jan 2010 was fantastic - we only paid the $50 service fee that Integral charge - all our electricity usage was paid for by our solar system. But that was the only one - with the ever increasing price of electricity, we are now lucky to cover a third to half our bill - even though the solar performs the same. We have extended our house and therefore use more electricity - but it's the cost of electricity that is the killer to the hip pocket!
Overall we are glad we put the solar system in and we have no problems at all with it. We are also very happy with the service provided by Kangaroo Valley Solar. We have not needed them to come back - but they have been in touch since our installation - and were instrumental in getting Barry O'Farrell to can his plans for axing the 60 cent solar rebate we get..for that we are eternally grateful..Thanks Cathy and Mike!

A very professional team, the salesman turned up at the correct time, he explained everything fully, the office staff were very efficient & the crew that installed the system were excellent. A very neat, well installed system, with all the DC wiring fully enclosed in condute I would recommend them to anyone.

Of the three suggested installers, one turned up 5 days after his appointment whilst I was out - left a scrap of paper stuck to my front door with prices and no follow-up. He lived 2kms from me! The second company were outrageously expensive, and not particularly informative.
Kangaroo Valley Solar were helpful, informative, on time and professional. They have kept us informed of the time line for our installation, and we are hoping that will take place on 20th December weather permitting.

It is difficult to compare quotes as the different firms quote differently, despite you asking specifically for th same thing from each supplier. Is this a marketing ploy?

Some firms seem to exaggerate the performance of panels and the potential earnings from your solar system. Is this ethical?

Buyers of solar systems need to do their homework or thy could be overwhelmed by providers.
