Horan & Bird consists of electricians, electrical engineers, consultants and solar power experts. We provide everyday energy solutions and specialise in solar installations, energy storage, lighting and demand management solutions. Great salesmen - poor service......

Promised the world, when system did not perform as described was told I hadnt been quoted the necessary module, asked for a quote for the required part and am still waiting.....

Installing contractors were freindly and accommodating, appears to be a significant communication gap between them and Horan and Bird

Used to be reputable but now have expanded beyond their capabilities

Give them a miss; put your money in to a company that understand about proper customer support and following - not just nice cheap words..

They do have quality gear and they do have fairly good technicians ( except when they decide to blame you for electrical faults that weren't your fault but merely that they forgot there was no RCD in the mains box ).

We needed a setup to cope with our 50~90kWh/DAY consumption and with battery & EV expansion; they lumped us with a 6.6/5kWh with no expansion.

The company is focusing hard on expansion and they've made an absolute dog's breakfast of their communications.

A solid local company with a genuine approach to providing value for money and high quality solar installations that stand the test of time.

I have found Horan & Bird to be solid local contractor who has been, and intends to continue in business for the long term with a truely genuine approach to provide the best information on quality and performance for their solar installations. I have found their products are the best on the market; that they refuse to use inferior products and components; and their solar installations exceed our cyclone requirements. I have also found their follow up service and warranty repair services are second to none. In my view, Horan & Bird are continually focused on how they can better improve their customer service and to value add over time by maintaining contact with the customer in terms of evolving solar and battery technology, and providing genuine "fit for purpose" advice on when best to schedule an upgrade. I have just had a meeting with one of their sales representatives and the advice I received was factual, objective and very professional, e.g., I was not pressured to make any changes at this time, but to wait until a date well into the future, so it cost me nothing. Additionally, I was provided with some very good advice on how to increase my solar rebate through changes to my power usage habits. Needless to say, when I do need to look at an upgrade, e.g. maybe battery, I will be going straight to Horan & Bird.

Solar panels

Employed a reputable firm but much more expensive to install our Solar 5 years ago. Installation was faulty and it took 12 months to have it safe to be corrected. NOW the panels are faulty and we have been waiting 6 months. H & B say it is not there problem and pass it on to the suppliers, who are difficult to contact.

Easy Install, Fantastic Service, Amazing Product

Could not recommend Horan and Bird enough. The sales and quoting process was so much easier then I thought it would be. The staff were super helpful when explaining the system and what it would do for my house. Nothing was ever too much for the team, they went above and beyond. Their products are quality and this is shown by my power bills after installation. Installation was super easy and quick.

Absolute worst experience I have had with with any company anywhere ever.

Horan & Bird installed solar on my roof in February 2020. They caused substantial damage (gouges, swarf rust, left whole panels unscrewed), didn't respond to any emails for six months when I reported it. I called them out on Facebook leading to them sending an inspector who agreed they were entirely at fault but did *nothing* about it until April 2021.

Note: I had already tried emailing and phoning numerous times before resorting to Facebook. It's now August 2021 and they still haven't completed the final inspection. I have never witnessed such complete incompetence or disregard for the customer in all my life.

Amazing company

Sales Consultant was very efficient and thorough.
Installation was very neat and quick.
Customer service overall has been impeccable.
Horan and Bird run the specialised energy service division for Origin Energy! They have a ton of experience and only use local contractors that are master electricians and have been trained by Origin. I don't think you'll get a better quality install going elsewhere.

Install is being done on the 25th Jul. The reps who came from each company were very knowledgeable and very easy to talk to. There was no high pressure sales and also little difference with costs between each company. The products were slightly different, but all great quality. The system from Lumax was slightly more expensive but thet were using LG panels. It was certainly worth contacting you for the assistance in obtaining quotes. Thanks so much

I chose Horan and Bird, over several other companies due to Quality of Service, and being local.
My experiences with some of the others were varied, from having a rep come out, spent 90minutes with us and wanted to give us the hard sell, and sign straight up to just plenty of no shows.
Horan and Bird came and Quoted the job, and followed up little later.
There was no high pressure sales, and ultimately the job was given to them upon paying a deposit.
The job was completed with in a day, and we also had 2 in error air conditioners installed at the same time.
I could not fault the service from Horan and Bird, and recommend them thoroughly.
We ultimately bought a 6Kw system, with ABB inverter and it's been great!!

Chose this local Townsville company because it is a very well respected business. Their quote was not the cheapest of the 6 that I got but it was middle of the range and I got the $2200 rebate. Also managed to score a solar hot water system meter in the deal. Horan and Bird are here in Townsville for all follow up service. I think you should add them to your list of Townsville solar suppliers. Original ratings

I can't rate the performance of the Inverter or the Panels because I have nothing to compare them with. I am happy with the performance and my power bills show that my solar system is definitely working. Having solar installed was the best decision I have made because of all the continuing rising energy costs which will keep rising. One tip for getting the best results from your solar system - keep the panels as dust free as possible by hosing them off every couple of months. If you can afford to have a solar system installed, don't hold off - get it now.

From the 1/2 to the 1/8 it has produced 3548KW. I have exported 1695 KW and used from the grid 2749.
At 30c a KW that makes my bill $824 less feed-in a 8c a KW $135 = $688.
Compared with without solar (2749+(3548-1695))*.3 = $1380
For 3 months that works out to $344 with and $690 without.
My hot water is on a timer, from 10:00 to 14:00.
I also work during the day, otherwise the savings might have been better.
I only regret that I did not get in earlier when it was 44c a KW.

Our panels are due to be installed on 8th May. I hope the system we are getting (SMA inverter/Trina panels) is as good as my checking out has led me to believe and I'm happy with the price, having talked to others with similar sized systems. Time will tell. The only thing I am concerned about is the temperatures that we have here during the summer - up to 40 degrees. From what I've read, panels aren't happy over about 25-26 degrees and lose their efficiency quite badly over that temperature. Need to sus out what can be done to cool the panels during the hottest part of the day.
