Honest offer

i have not been dissatisfied with any aspect of renewing our old solar system. The original sales/quotation process was honest and respectful of our needs. The quotation was very competitive without seeming too good to be true. The installers were punctual, friendly and professional. We were very happy with the whole process.

Disappointing after sales care. Inverter/battery failure after 9 months of operation.

I had an inverter and battery system installed in 2022. The cost was $12,000. Nine months later, first the battery stopped working and now the inverter has also failed due to an undisclosed hardware issue.

The response from the company has been to fob me off with an automated email stating that it is a manufacturer warranty issue and they will advise me when parts are available.

There has been no phone call, no clarification and no indication of a timeframe for the fix. In fact, no one has even told me what the spare part is and why there are no spare parts in stock?

I have twice requested an indication of the timeframe for the repair and all I get is the same an automated response "we'll let you know when we have a spare part".

The brand name of the faulty battery and inverter is SunGrow.

Following publication of this review, the company has reached out to me. A spare part was located and the inverter was repaired under warranty.

Gold Coast Solar Power Solutions

After hours of quotes, calls, research into installing a solar system I decided to deal with Gold Coast Solar Power Solutions from word of mouth recommendations. The whole process was easy & explained well , the team were on time, very polite & answered any questions. They cleaned up afterwards like they hadn’t even been here. The quality of installation is excellent! Had other solar contractors on-site to do air con work and they commented on the install. We are very pleased with the service & products received. I highly recommend GCSPS to all in need of a solar system. You won’t regret it.

Great changeout of inverter

When my inverter decided to call it a day I left an online contact with Gold Coast Solar Power Solutions.
The communications with Simon were excellent and prompt. The contact was on Sunday and the inverter was changed out on Thursday. The installers Sean and his offsider made sure that any wireing that needed to be changed went back neat and tidy. The new inverter was producing power within a very short time.
Excellent Job, very happy.
Barry.

Original Review on 22-12-2019:

Excellent experience from discussion to installation - prompt, quick and friendly

Unassuming and helpful salesperson - Jaydon gives a feeling of confidence. Installation was of course a noisy affair, and the team battled ferociously hot weather to get everything up - one side flat, one side tilted. The team were always polite and informative. Waiting on EWR to get the meter fixed for export, right now enjoying free air-con when hot! Original ratings

8 months later we asked Steve: "Are you happy with the performance of your system so far?"

All of the people that gave us quotes, suggested (thought) that looking at our power bill average, we would be able to do away with the bill entirely and might even get a credit.

Sure - if you never do any cooking at night, don't watch TV or have any appliances on at night.

Yes - we have cut our bill from an average of $150 per month to around $90 per month including the 17¢/kwh buyback - so savings over a year of approx $700. So our pay-back on the $7K we paid would be 10 years. At which time would the panels still be performing as efficiently? Who knows.

I think maybe that expectations were set a little high by all of the people who quoted.

Well-rated local supplier

On a purchase of this nature (in the order of 1000's), one relies heavily on sales people for various points of note. We were ready finance-wise to pay cash for our system and wanted it installed soon. Salesmen that are honest enough to admit they can't answer a question but will get back with an outcome go a lot further than those that try to bluff you through
Throughout the journey of weighing up: face to face advice, resources studied on-line (including Finn's recommendations) and our price range we were more than happy with the assistance provided by Gold Coast Solar Power Solutions, specifically Russell. Their install team of young, energetic tradies and labourers did a great job communication-wise, tidying up and generally getting a hard task completed in tough, hot conditions.

Re Customer service : salesman 5 plus stars; physical installation 5 stars. Designers knowledge of NSW energy distributor rules : 2 stars. GCSPS is a company based just over 30kms north of us. But they are in Qld .. and we are in NSW. We had held on to a marketing letter from them, sent a few months previously, to the "solar power system owner" at our address (we had an old small system). The sales process was exemplary - salesman (Russell) could not have been more helpful, was not pushy, and answered our myriad questions patiently. The company only offers good quality components (per lists on solarquotes website). Having asked for a 5kW system, we accepted the quote (which said a Fronius Primo 5kva inverter). A couple days later we were told that we were not allowed to have that installed ..a 4kva was the largest we could get approval for. Reason given was the distance from the meter box to the street supply. We contacted the electricity distributor ourselves and found that for a domestic urban install such as ours, a 5 kW system would not likely be a problem. At 3pm the afternoon before installation date, the designer at GCSPS finally contacted the electricity distributor to discover that they had wrongly interpreted the rules ! The installation on the Friday went very well .. very nice guys to have onsite. Everything left clean and tidy. However on checking that we had a 5kva inverter going up I discovered it was the Fronius 5.0kva AUS model - with a 4.6kWh capacity. Why? The head installer explained that all inverters had to have reactive power control with 90% lagging. He even phoned the office to have the designer explain this to me and pointed me to a very well written article on their website. The next day I did more research and realised that their article referred only to Energex, the distributor for the Gold Coast area (not across the border, where we are). Further contact with the electricity distributor for here (Essential Energy) gained the discovery that reactive power control was NOT required by them on a 5 kW system. It also gained more in depth information on the 3 cables they look at (pole to supply point; supply point to meter box; meter box to inverter) and the limitation of no greater loss than 1% in ..MORE than one ..of those cables (domestic, urban). So again confirmed, there was no problem with us getting a 5kW system. Finally the designer conceded that they had not been cognisant with the rules for our location. To be fair they did offer to replace the inverter with the 5.0kva international model... we had had enough and declined. Such an enormous amount of hassle, reading, researching etc to convince several experts there that their confident pronouncement on rules was not correct. For a SE Qld installation, I would recommend them without hesitation (though that is qualified by the same designer saying our 4.6kW inverter could "easily handle" 23 of our REC 290w panels ... really? ) For a prospective purchaser just over the NSW border, I would suggest they either become particularly knowledgeable on all the rules ... or use a NSW installer.

The quotes I received from the companies supplied by Solar Quotes were ridiculously overpriced.

Went with Gold Coast Solar Power Solutions after getting quotes from several other companies. Jadon the salesperson was able to answer all my questions and offer several systems and discussing the advantages and features of each system. Installers arrived on the day as scheduled and did a superb job. After sales queries was also answered very quickly. I would recommend this company.

I received about ten quotes and compared equivalent quality systems with each other - all European inverters and panels.

In the end the company I went with came in with the best price and their service was excellent.

The salesperson made the great difference to our decision to choose this supplier. He did not demean other companies in order to get a sale, was professional, prompt, friendly with a happy disposition, gave a good price with good system and all information we needed. He scheduled the installation within two weeks and had it installed on time. The total work was of professional quality from all Gold Coast Solar Power Solutions team members.
