About
Blue Mountains Solar started trading in 2009 and is part of an electrical contracting company that has been in business for over 17 years. They are fully licensed electricians and have Level 2 accreditation so your metering is installed the same day (which is unusual in the solar industry!).
They say all their installations are fitted by Clean Energy Council accredited installers and they only use hardware backed by solid Australian warranties. They only use SMA inverters and their panels are either Trina or Sunpower.
They say they will always visit your property for an onsite inspection and shade analysis. The data gathered from this shade assessment is loaded into their design software. From that the output report gives you, the client, a realistic monthly estimation of how much solar electricity your system will be producing. The customer can then monitor their monthly output and be confident that the system is performing as it should.
They also say they will deal with your current electricity supplier and do all the paperwork for you.

Fantastic local supplier
Blue Mountains Solar provided a very informative seminar detailing everything you needed to know to make an informed choice. They carried out an on-site visit and discussed options. They gave a very detailed and informative quote in a booklet. Their pricing was comparable to other companies that were consulted. They were not the cheapest, nor the most expensive. The quotes provided through Solar Quotes were helpful.The installation was carried out promptly, tidily, and professionally. The after sales service has been excellent. Blue Mountains Solar has been trading locally for over 12 years and have a great reputation. The quality of their work and after sales service is their best advertising.
I recommend them very highly and I also recommend Solar Quotes very highly.

Exactly as advertised
Visited site, listened to my questions and answered in a friendly fashion.System was installed efficiently and on timed neatly.
The small problem I had with system reporting was attended to promptly.

I was very impressed with the level of service from first point of contact through to answering questions during waiting for the install.On the day of Install, Damien and his crew were punctual , friendly and remained professional during the install .
I was also impressed with the high quality of their work.
Damien also assisted me with setting up the phone app and explained how to use the app as well as well .
I showed Damien my recent power bill and and asked him a few questions about approximate projected savings estimates for future bills , which he explained in great detail.
Damien was very patient in answering my questions.
I would highly recommend the team from Blue Mountains Solar for your install.

Damian and his team did an excellent job.I am well satisfied.
Now I just have to wait for Origin Energy to change the meter so I can be credited for the power I'm exporting to the grid!

Another company and Blue Mountains Solar presented clear and precise information about their quotes. They took time to answer all my questions. I chose Blue Mountains Solar because they offered the Sunpower panels. The installation began on time. The installers were extremely polite and tidy. After the install they organised the grid connection. They explained how the the monitoring system works and ensured it was operational before they left. Very impressed.22 November 2018

We are getting the solar on the 13/12/2017.8 months later we asked Renee: "Are you happy with the performance of your system so far?"
The system has saved my family money however, we could do with a few more as there are 7 people living under the roof with 7.8Kilowatt Grid connect solar system with 24 x 327w Sunpower panels and a SMA STP8000TL-20 Tripower inverter. I have noticed that in the winter months we consume more which is a given when living in the blue mountains. Maybe Battery or more panels, I will seek advice in relation to this query.

Blue Mountains Solar, 4 kW solar install in September 2017 in Katoomba NSW. Damian and his 2 co-workers/installers arrived on time, early morning, and completed the whole solar installation before noon, with minimal noise, no disruption to us (apart from turning power off and on a few times), and placement of panels on 2 different areas of our roof. Damian made sure everything was working AOK. He returned a number of times, without us asking, as he monitors our system via his workplace, to tweak the system. The inverter was turning on and off in the mornings and a fault in the earth/ground somewhere was showing up, Damian traced the fault to a rusty earth/ground rod connection we had installed about 10 years earlier, he cleaned and repaired it, and have had no problems since. Excellent service, excellent install, we highly recommend Blue Mountains Solar.

So glad I've done it! I'm battery ready and will upgrade in 2 years as the technology becomes cheaper. I'm only sorry I didn't ask for the smart meter - I really want to know more about my generation and usage - will wait for the batteries and then get one.The install was so quick and the post-install customer support is good. Blue Mountains Solar are very good on their word!
It was a lot of money (just under $9,500) but I am happy with the quality of the components and the service by Damian and his team.
I also got good thick curtains throughout the house and topped-up my ceiling space insulation to make the best of the heating/cooling. Insulation is just as important!
Thanks so much for your service - I went to your site often to make sense of everything!

Yes. I had an initial problem with the supply from the grid which shut down the solar panels each time the voltage went too high. Eventually the energy distributor accepted the fault was theirs (after blaming the solar installers first) and fixed it by switching phases. No grid faults since then. Support from Blue Mountains Solar was good during this time. The system is great. Waiting until batteries are cheap enough to install in a hybrid arrangement.

Our dealings with Blue Mountains Solar have met or exceeded all of our expectations, including installing higher capacity solar panels at no additional charge. We chose BM Solar for a few reasons: a well established, well reputed local business, offering the world’s best available products in SunPower panels and SMA inverter. Salesman Lewis arrived with a comprehensive written proposal, which included an item by item costed quotation (which none of our other 3 quoters provided), which helped us to negotiate and sign a contract on the spot.
Owner Damian and Tom arrived on the promised installation date, and were finished by 2pm, leaving behind only the installed Solar System, which is of the highest installation standard + very happy Customers. Very pleasant and easy to work with people.
How could we not say that Blue Mountains Solar are fantastic!

The system has been up for two weeks. No issues. The installation team were excellent and efficient with the installation. The only negative, and it is by choice. is the cost of the Sunpower panels. They are very good, however I wonder if they are worth twice the cost of standard panels.

This is the second house at which I've installed a solar system. My first experience with another solar installer in Sydney was mediocre, but my second experience with Blue Mountains Solar was excellent. I installed 5.88kW of panels (18 x 327W Sunpower panels) and a Sunnyboy 5kW inverter. I've had the system installed for about 5 months now and the output is excellent. Damien and the team were attentive and offered a competitive price for this installation. Because the installation occurred as part of a larger home renovation I was impressed with the coordination and communication with me, the electrician, and the building team. Because of Damian's more advanced electrical certification he went above and beyond the call of duty to assist my electrician with some incidental but related work. In summary, my experience was great and I'd happily recommend Blue Mountains Solar. When I decide to install a battery system, they'll be the first ones I call.

One of the companies just sent a quote then badgered me to sign up, the other would not answer the questions I had about installation and during discussions with their representative they refused to discuss, in detail, the concerns that I had.

Blue Mountains Solar were very open about all the details including the cost, and although the most expensive of the three quotes, theirs was the best value for money based on the guaranteed level of performance of the system over 25 years. Damien and his team arrived to do the installation when they said they would and were efficient, respectful and provided all the information I needed and the system was up and running immediately. My neighbour has the same system installed by Blue Mountains Solar four years ago and gave me great feedback on the performance of the system and Blue Mountains Solar which added to my confidence in my decision. Thank you Solar Quotes for providing all the background information to enable me to make an informed decision.

I received 2 responses from the 3 suggested. Whilst the Solaray guide price was lower then BM Solar, I was happy to proceed with them based on the equipment provided and the fact they are a local business. Installation was delayed by about a month from quote acceptance which I accept was mainly due to wet weather in this period.

Blue Mountains Solar was absolutely fantastic to us from the initial interview to the completion of the installation. The explanations, the many questions answered, the time spent with us in person and via e-mails, and the apparent and obvious knowledge, eliminated the other quotes immediately. Explained at length the mechanism and answered our multitude of questions with great understanding. These characteristics were particularly so when we were learning about the inverters and also the function of the NET meter. We are now recording readings from the inverters and the NET meter (and learning more as we travel this course) in preparation for Blue Mountains Solar's return visit to check on the efficiency of the installation. This installation included LG batteries and SMA Inverter, SMA Sunny Island for on and off grid applications and Sunny Home Manager. The panels are Sunpower X-Series with 345w power. I intend using Reposit software when it is developed and available for the SMA equipment. The SMA have the reputation for being the state of the art equipment and the panels are the most efficient, and are locally supported, with the best guarantee as well as the LG battery I am using. I understand at 15 years guarantee the batteries are way in front of the competition. As well as this they are very compact and can easily be added to if needs be, to achieve practical independence from grid supplied power. I am assured this system makes better use of the sun power generated. The SMA system includes access to their web site to see exactly how the system is performing.There is no doubt this is not the cheapest available but I feel confident the system and supplier are the best available and well worth the cost.
I am adding this system to my original 1.5kW system earning .60c per kW.

Yes. The service from my installer has been first class. I have one and a half LG batteries installed with my new system. I have previously installed 12 panels under the just finished 60c feedin scheme. When these are connected shortly to the new 13 panels I am hoping I will be near to independent from the grid supply as well as feeding in excess generated power to the grid.Since installing my new system on 09/05/2016 I have avoided 2 t of CO2.

First of all, I am a person who likes to purchase the best quality I can afford.
I have been thinking of installing a Solar System on my home in Medlow Bath for some time now, and as usual, things that happen in life kept pushing the decision back, also I do not buy into the throw away society which is far too prevelant today.
What I was looking for was a company that was going to install a system that was going to last, would have good manufacturer backed warranties,and was local.
After conducting a quick google search it seemed there was only one company that was in my area which was Blue Mountains Solar.
There were no pushy sales techniques, the staff explained clearly to me why the product was superior to other product and pointed out that although I may pay a bit extra for my Sunpower system it was going to last.
Now I have a system on my roof that is producing more energy than I expected, has a 25 year manufacturers warranty (not to mention the manufacturers 25 year performance guarantee, seems the industry average is 10 years) and its also battery ready.
What company nowadays says to a customer that batteries are great but to advise me that I should wait a couple of years for the capacity to increase and the prices to fall?
Ok, so I am a very happy customer.

Blue Mountain Solar arrived right at the time and day arranged. Damian and the team started work and were finished in a few hours. I said to my husband they were like the McLaren racing team in the pits. Everyone knew their job and just got into it. Site left clean and tidy and we were generating power as they left.
Damian was honest and knowledgeable as another review said his enthusiasm is infectious. He is a straight talker and not pushy. Gives you the facts and allows you to make the decision without the high pressure sales pitch. An absolutely wonderful company to deal with. Would and have recommended them to others looking for solar energy, We are about to upgrade our panels with Blue Mountains Solar prior to the 60 cent rebate expiring and look forward to using them again.

I had quotes from Nicholls and Mark group. I preferred to go with the local installer because he's local and he was prepared to talk to me about all the technicalities. I'm an electrical engineer and therefore I expect to be treated like one and not another punter. He is the supplier and installer. I can understand all the fine points regarding the construction and operation of panels and inverters. I did not feel that I was dealing with anybody but a pure salesman with all other suppliers who have called me. I especially did not appreciate the hard sell by Mark group. I am the hardest person to sell to if my knowledge is not respected. I do not buy on price. I buy on good engineering and the integrity of the person I deal with. I'm naturally sceptical of all salespeople and the solar panels industry seems to have attracted the usual bunch of carpet baggers.8 months later we asked Michael: "Are you happy with the performance of your system so far?"

Blue mountains solar have great advice on the type of setup I wanted with a clear analysis of what I needed to achieve a system that can be expanded in the future. Also, having an installer that is a current licenced electrician sped up the connection process by not having to rely on a third party to hook up to the grid.
BMS were also very aware of keeping the aesthetics of my house in mind during placement of the panels on the roof.
Finally, I was very comfortable with Damien's confident demeaner and a 'no hard sell' approach.

Highly recommended. No hard sell. Very knowledgeable about the products. Provide options and will discuss the pro and cons at length, to make sure you are comfortable with the solution. Came prepared for site survey with relevant information and was on-time. During installation, again Damian and Sebastian started work on time and by mid-day our system was fully operational. No mess, no waiting for connection. It just worked. Not the cheapest solution but I am impressed with the quality of work and solution. We are using LG Neo PV and SMA inverter with Tigo to maximise output in our shadowy location.

I used to be a university Professor (Finance). I did the financial calculations in great detail and liked the rate-of-return for me. I went for a slightly more expensive system thinking that the German SMA inverter and the highly efficient SunPower solar panels represented less operational risk for me, less break-down risk of the components, less risk of solar panel melt-down or inverter failure. There are cheaper installations yet I see a trade-off between up-front cost and quality, leading to greater longevity of the overall installation with essentially zero maintenance issues. Damian McMahon of Blue Mountains Solar did an excellent job. His commitment to the benefits of solar PV technology is infectious. From day one this system has simply worked and I've indeed had no need for any maintenance. I plan to adopt a flexible battery system soon. Damian is advising me on the choice of battery and configuration of the overall installation to maximise flexibility and the economic benefits. SMA's web-based monitoring portal allows this client real-time monitoring of all that's going on with the PV system.

Blue Mountains Solar were the only company that offered to come to my house to evaluate the site and offer options. Sure there were cheaper offers but none gave me the confidence BM Solar provided.
Damian has always been punctual, knew his product, offered valuable advice/options and was always very professional.
They came today spot on time, installed the system and had finished by around 1pm. The place was left immaculately clean and tidy. The system was explained to me and has already exceeded my expectations in it's output just today.
A lot of mountains tradespeople could take a leaf out of BM Solar's book. Well done Damian and Sebastian and I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone.

Very impressed with their punctuality, efficiency and professionalism. Damian gave sound, practical advice with no pressure salesmanship. Nothing was too much trouble. Only company in the area to provide Sunpower panels as an option. Since they are the best panels in the world why go for anything less.
They work as a team and to see men cleaning up after themselves was amazing. WOW!
