Beacon Solar is a solar energy company based in Melbourne and serving all of Australia except the Northern Territory. The company is a division of and old established company, Beacon Lighting. They say that they provide solar solutions for private homes, schools and businesses.Beacon says that its solar panels and inverters are supplied by the world’s most reputable solar manufacturers. They also say that their installers are CEC accredited . Beacon says that it can provide customers with up to 24 months interest free finance.

Multiple equipment failure and isolator switch failure, almost caused our house to burn.

After 2 years we've notice a major lost of productivity.

When they finally dared sending a repair electrician, after having us contact consumer affair, the repairer noticed an isolator had melted and almost cause us losing our home.

2 years after the repair our panels have a snail trail and have again, a high loss of productivity. Beacon solar disappeared from the market and we now have to fight with the manufacturer to get our 25y warranty honoured.

very poor back up service

very poor back up service spoke to 3 different people all said they would get back to me and never did one asked for photo's to be sent of serial number this was done then no response followed up with emails still no response very poor by beacon not to even bother backing their customer with a follow up response

I would suggest if you are looking for solar make sure Beacon Solar are in the mix. Our sales rep was excellent and patient with my questions and provided answers promptly. Unfortunately I can’t advise about installation or after sales as I am still building my house and waiting for the day we can install.

Inverter failed around the warranty period but didn't notice until around six months later. Beacon didn't want to help because they didn't have any refurbed inverters lying around. Found out online it was a common product issue. Beacon was arranging to a local trade to contact to rectify but nobody ever called.

Delivery was a problem as the carter didn't read the requirements. Beacon sorted that out.
The panels installed on a tin shed worked loose in high winds over a 2 year period. Beacon fixed that at no cost.

The system works well and Beacon staff have been informative and helpful.

Great team in Melbourne prepared to go the extra mile for the customer.

I decided on Beacon Solar following very poor experience with two other suppliers. The first Metrosolar and then Mark Group. I will provide a write up on these two under their own listing.

Beacon Solar were wonderful and easy to deal with. Well priced and quality equipment. The deposit was paid and they had received approval from my power provider for the proposed installation within the week, something Metrosolar took almost a month to achieve!

Installation was promised within 4 weeks and it was!

Only problem is that when the installer was fitting the panels and micro inverters he did not record the inverters serial numbers so I can not access the online monitoring system. I have with held $1000 until they rectify this problem.

That one issue aside. I recommend anyone considering a solar installation to contact Beacon Solar.

I went with Beacon because they are nationally recognised and a respected company. I received many other quotes, some cheaper and some dearer. Beacon bent over backwards to give me the deal I wanted and I am very happy.

The company is based in Victoria but sells solar systems in various states including NSW (my state). The administration person I dealt with seemed to be badly informed about the NSW government feed-in tariff system and gave me incorrect advice as to how to apply for the feed-in tariff. They were also slow in replying to some of my queries (after I had purchased the system). Original ratings

22 months later we asked John: "Are you happy with the performance of your system so far?"

The energy output has not been as high as was predicted, but it is possible that this may be partly due to the fact that there have been significantly less sunny days than normal over the 20 months since the system was installed. It is generating slightly less than 2000 kWh per year (the nominal power is 1.5 kW). (The panels are shaded for 2-3 hours in the afternoon during the period April-August only.)

Discussed options re size of system, panel positioning etc., They probably tell everyone this, but the inspector for COS indicated an excellent system (especially inverter) and excellent installation work.

I had two quotes from solarquotes. The first one mislead me about how many panels I could have, the second one didn't get back to me the second time and I have since heard they went bust.

The system could be installed in one of two placers. One is at 30 degree and the other is at 22 deg, as I was not at home only my wife it was installed on the roof that is 22 deg where I had wanted it installed on the 30 degree roof ( the ideal angle for Perth) and the best output I have seen on a clear sunny day is a little over 1 KW. I will have to rework the mounting frame to the correct angle. Where it was installed was the easiest install not the best. I had told my wife where I wanted the system installed.

Once I accepted the quote system was installed within 4 weeks. Very professional and very great to deal with they get back to you when they say they will and keep you in the loop so you are not chasing them you know exactly whats going on and what the next stepa are. Would definitely recomend.
