Company Info

Smappee was founded by Stefan Grosjean in 2012 and is headquartered in an "energy-neutral" cleantech hub in Harelbeke, which is a is a city and municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The company produces a wide range of EV charging devices, from products for home to 240kW DC fast charging solutions.

Smappee EV Chargers In Australia

The company offers several models for home charging applications that are available to Australian EV owners.

EV Wall LITE

This device is available as single-phase (7.4kW) or three-phase (22kW) unit. The EV Wall LITE has an operating temperature range of -25 °C to 40 °C; which could be problematic in some of Australia's toastier regions - but this range is quite common among chargers.

Charging activation is via QR code, plug and charge or RFID, and charging sessions can be managed anywhere with a smartphone and the Smappee app. Like all of the company's chargers, it has an ingress protection rating of IP54, meaning it can be installed outside. But that's best done out of direct sunlight and rain exposure to maximise service life.

The EV Wall LITE measures 300 x 300 x 110 mm and weighs 6.2 kilograms.

Smappee recommends this unit for those who just want to charge their EV at a fixed speed without any additional bells and buzzers.

EV Wall HOME

The EV Wall HOME is available in single or three phase with outputs of 7.4kW (single phase) and 22kW (three-phase). Among its highlights are integrated autonomous overload protection and solar optimisation, and it offers secure OCPP and OCPP roaming.

It's available with a socket (untethered) or tethered with 8 metre charging cable, weighs 4.7kg (untethered) and the station's dimensions are 300 x 300 x 110 mm. Its operating temperature range is also -25 °C to 40 °C.

EV One HOME

For those wanting something a little different and who don't mind spending big bucks, this three-phase charger (maximum 22kW output) is a free-standing unit, presented in a slim rectangular all-black form with i ntegrated LED lighting indicating charging status.. Beyond its minimalist design, its advanced features include solar surplus charging. This untethered unit measures 1100 × 120 × 120 mm and weighs 11 kg; 12.5kg with the mounting anchor.

It comes with a 5-year Smappee API platform license, and fees and charges for this may apply after the free period.

Smappee App

Available with all its chargers, the Smappee App provides details about the cost of energy usage and allows you to track, manage and optimise energy consumption  - including solar consumption for the EV Wall HOME and One HOME. It provides real-time as well as historical energy insights.

Warranty Information

The Smappee EV WALL LITE and HOME come with a 2-year warranty that can be extended to 5 years. The EV One HOME has a 5-year warranty.

Added a switch to go from 1 to 3 phase. So can better charge on excess solar during day on single phase and boost to 3 if needed at night. See my previous post about the provider and installer
A very neat, clean looking charger that hides very intelligent functionality. Accompanying app is great, and covers everything technical you would need to know. The selling point for us was it’s ability to understand our household use, electricity tariffs, and charge the EV using only surplus solar output. Bonus, 8m charging cable.
