2017 proved to be another busy year for Trina Solar, which shipped 9.0 to 9.2 GW of PV modules to destinations around the world according to the company.
Shipments during the first three quarters were 1.966 GW, 2.481 GW and 2.092 GW, respectively. While fourth quarter figures weren’t final, the company is confident the level was enough to achieve a full-year shipment of more than 9 gigawatts capacity.
The company did brisk business in India last year, delivering more than 3 GW of modules, and claims to have grabbed more than 25% of market share in that country in 2017.
Among its other achievements last year, Trina opened a 1 GW solar cell manufacturing facility in Vietnam, making it that country’s largest PV manufacturer. 2017 also saw Trina setting a new record of 24.13% total-area efficiency for a large-area N-type monocrystalline silicon Interdigitated Back Contact (IBC) solar cell.
Another highlight of the year was selected Trina modules scoring well in DNV-GL’s solar panel torture tests.

Looking ahead, while BNEF reports Trina will be affected by the Trump solar tariffs, the impact will probably be limited in the short-term as the tariff was expected. The company’s vice-president has said Trina will expand into other markets around the world.
PV-Tech reported this week Pakistan has invited Trina Solar to construct a solar panel manufacturing facility in that country, and the government will provide support including tax incentives.
Trina Solar was founded in 1997 by Gao Jifan, originally as a PV system integrator. In 2006, it listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In March last year, its 20th anniversary year, Trina ceased to be a publicly traded company after a merger with Red Viburnum Company Limited.
While news from the company has been a little thin since then, it’s obviously still kicking major goals.
Trina Solar panels are shipped to more than 100 countries, including Australia – you can browse more than 160 Australian Trina solar panel reviews here on SolarQuotes; from customers who have had the modules installed.
