What Matters Most To Solar Customers?

In this third article showcasing the top 5 solar installers in each Australian capital city, it’s become clear what matters most to customers trying to navigate the murky world of rooftop solar. In two words – customer service.

Reviews

Just to prove it, here are some words from top 5 Melbourne company reviewers.

Green Line Solar review by Brendan:

“Who hasn’t had a less than satisfactory dealing with companies providing services to help our home! From the first contact with Toby, we felt confident that Green Line were providing what we need. The process was simple and all our questions were answered in a way that we could fully understand. Dates were set and adhered to and Jake was in early and by late afternoon we were Solar operating. We had one small inverter issue a few weeks in and Toby and Jake were on to it in a flash. I would not hesitate to recommend Green Line Solar to anyone interested. A great team, well done fellas.”

JWS Electrical Services Pty Ltd review by Natasha:

“Excellent customer service team that were always willing to help without being pushy. The installers were very professional and polite and made sure we had spare roof tiles. They made the transition to solar so smooth and easily done. Our friend recommended them to us and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to everyone else.”

OneTeam Energy Pty Ltd review by Robert:

“Rhyse and his team were a pleasure to deal with. From my initial contact with Rhyse, receiving a quote, adjusting quotes to suit, and the time and patience he gave in answering all my questions, of which there were many. To the time of install, which Brandon and Jack did without a fuss, neat and tidy. And now the admin work that Rhyse has been taking care of so proficiently to organise grid connection. Simply an excellent service overall! Thank you OneTeam.”

Formosa Electrics Pty Ltd review by Jenni:

“Joseph was quick to respond to the initial inquiry and patient with my questions. Unlike some of my other quotes, I felt he had time to speak to me and didn’t feel like I was dealing with a salesperson telling me what they thought I wanted to hear. He also came out to do a proper shading analysis in person which the others didn’t do, and I feel they missed vital information because of this. I found him trustworthy and communicated with us the whole way through. The install was quick and went smoothly. We are very happy with the end product and would highly recommend.”

Solar Tactics Pty Ltd review by Matt:

“The end-to-end experience with Solar Tactics was nothing short of great. I was never pressured into buying anything, they were very informative answering many questions I had and very prompt in their replies to the questions. During the install process, the team was very friendly, respectful and worked very hard to deliver a great outcome. They are trustworthy and left the working area very tidy. The whole process was managed by their team end-to-end and it was as seamless as you can reasonably expect. Highly recommended!”

And A Word From One Of The Installers

Toby Culham is one of the partners in Green Line Solar, who ended up well and truly in the top 5. I asked him what the important attributes of a successful solar company are:

“I would say trust and genuinely caring about the customer and their home. The longer you spend talking to them, the more you understand what they’re looking for. For me this is the most important thing, however it’s also the hardest thing to achieve in terms of making sure the rest of the business is being afforded enough time.

We’re a small company. We’re not the cheapest, but we’ve also not made huge profit margins, our price is fair for the level of service we offer. In terms of upscaling, there’s limits because I’m very wary that we could lose what makes us good, and what I value in the job that we do.

Not growing too fast seems to be the way to remain a trustworthy business that has contact points with the owner, installers and staff. Rather than growing, we’re interested in diversifying and offering our customers other things related to solar.”

Bottom Rated Melbourne Solar Installers

At first, we intended to showcase the top 5 and the bottom 5 solar companies serving Melbourne, but we realised that would soon turn into a bun fight. Although – being Melbourne – at least there would be good coffee to go with all the buns being thrown.

But you, dear reader, can use our installer reviews database to look up any Melbourne installer you may be considering.

Top tips on using SolarQuotes reviews

Here’s a good way to compare Melbourne solar companies based on how many stars they have:

  1. If the installer has any scores with one, two, or three stars, look closely at them and look for patterns. Nobody is perfect, so sometimes things go wrong in business. When things go wrong, what matters is how they rectify matters.links for low-rated installer reviews
  2. Use “View Timeline” to see if they’ve changed over time.
average installer review score from 2018 to 2023
  3. To see their score relative to other installers, go to ‘Australia Wide Ranking’.
Australia-wide ranking for installersFor example, an average score of 4.3 might sound fine. But it puts them in the bottom 30% of all installers reviewed on SolarQuotes who have at least 25 reviews:relative score ranking calculation compared to other solar installers

Always Check Multiple Reviews Sites

Some businesses may try to game some review sites. If they are successful, they may have a good-looking score on one site where they sell themselves yet a bad score on others.

Ratings Compared To Google Reviews

To maintain fairness, we present all the companies again, along with their ratings from SolarQuotes and Google. It is important to note that our survey of SolarQuotes reviews only considers those from the last three years, while Google ratings include all-time reviews.

Furthermore, we evaluate solar companies based on four categories – Value for Money, Quality of System, Installation, and Customer Service – by requesting reviewers to provide ratings out of five stars for each category, while for Google reviews, reviewers are only asked to provide a simple 5-star rating.

  1. David Issko says

Urban Renewables is my No 1 installer of choice. In October 2021, Jol and his team removed an old but fully operational 4.9 kW solar pv and replaced it with a much larger pv system.

New system worked instantly it was commissioned and has been operational daily since then, generating clean, silent and wonderful electricity for my home and other homes in our street.

Being true to their business namesake, they repurposed my old panels and inverter, rather than disposing of perfectly good but small array.

    • Kim Wainwright says

Good choice David. They have some great reviews with a 4.8 rating from SQ over the last 3 years. To be honest, there’s not a lot separating the top installers whether they’re on this list or not.

  2. Joseph King says

I’m now really wary of recommended installers or anyone else for that matter. Our Solar Panel were installed from a SolarQuotes recommended installer in April 2020 and THREE YEARS later I am still trying to get the TWO faulty panels that were bad from day one and a THIRD panel that went bad five
    months later replaced under warranty.

Now the installer seems to have decided installing solar panels is not his cup of lemon juice and has closed down. Great. Caveat emptor!

      Joseph,

I can’t find you in our database, searching for both your name and email. Are you sure you went through SQ and not a copycat?

If you give us a call on 08 7200 0177 (or [email protected]) , we’ll get to the bottom of it with you – and do what we can to help.

      • Joseph King says

Hi Finn and Thank you for the response. Also my apologies for any confusion I have caused and your time wasted searching your records. I made a big boo boo when posting the above which shall be explained in the email. ?‍♂️

I most certainly hope my comment above is NOT perceived as a criticism of SolarQuotes because that was not repeat NOT intended in any way because you guys have been fantastic each time I made contact.

I am writing a short novel that I will send and I hope that I will be clear enough (though I can’t guarantee that since I am on some fairly heavy meds for a very long term injury, assuming that 27 years is a long term) that from it that you will understand what I was saying and the latin phrase was all I was suggesting.
