Finn's WeCo Batteries Review & Verdict

Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO

With no Australian office, little information about the company on its own website, and little time "out in the wild" in Australia for its products, I wouldn’t like to roll the dice on a WeCo home battery at this point.

WeCo Batteries: Pros & Cons

  • No Australian office.
  • Little transparency about firm on WeCo's website

Company Info

There's not a lot to say about WeCo as the company doesn't say it on their website. But it appears WeCo has manufacturing facilities in Italy and China; and is considering building a factory in the USA. In addition to batteries for residential, commercial and utility-scale applications, WeCo also produces EV chargers.

WeCo 5K3 XP Home Battery

The WeCo dual voltage 5K3 is Clean Energy Council approved for use in Australia. It can be mounted on a wall or installed in a stackable configuration - up to 5 modules when used in high voltage applications (HV box required), or 8 modules for low-voltage. There's further expandability through parallel connection of stacks.

The base unit, with 5.37kWh capacity (nominal), measures 580 mm x 492 mm x 177 mm, and weighs 54 kg. The working temperature range is: Charge -5 °C ~ +55 °C, Discharge -20 °C ~ +65 °C. Ingress protection is only IP20, so this definitely needs to be installed indoors.

WeCo's CUB8 monitoring system can detect, control and monitor each connected battery pack, and a mobile app is available so owners can keep an eye on things.

Warranty Information

We couldn't find an Australia-specific warranty document. But for the European market, the WeCo dual voltage 5K3 XP is accompanied by a 10 year warranty, or 7,000 charge/discharge cycles (whichever comes first). The battery is warranted to have not less than 70% of nameplate energy storage capacity at the end of year 10. If you're considering buying this battery, be sure to sight (and thoroughly read) and Australian warranty first.

We have no information regarding how WeCo batteries have been performing in real-world conditions in Australia. If you're an owner, let other Australians know your impressions of the 5K3 by leaving a review.
