Finn's Senec Batteries Review & Verdict
Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO
SENEC were never on the SolarQuotes approved battery list, but their batteries seemed reasonably popular here. The company exited Australia in early 2024 but has committed to honour local warranties and will continue to provide software updates and technical support during the warranty period.
Senec Batteries: Pros & Cons
- SENEC no longer operates in Australia
About Senec
Established in 2009, SENEC entered the Australian market in 2017. It became a fully owned subsidiary of EnBW Energie Baden-Wurttemberg AG in 2018, one of Germany’s largest energy suppliers.
On December 11th 2023, SENEC Australia went into liquidation. The company stated it wanted to focus on the European market, specifically Germany and Italy.
Senec Home Batteries
The German designed and manufactured SENEC.Home V3 Hybrid available in Australia was an ‘all-in-one’ battery system incorporating inverter, battery management system and battery modules. The battery modules are produced separately in South Korea by Samsung SDI, one of the world’s largest battery cell manufacturers.
The SENEC hybrid storage system can be AC or DC coupled, or both at the same time, and can be combined with any PV system; both new and existing. Its modular design allows you to increase usable storage capacity from a base 4.5kWh to 9kWh when the need arises. SENEC's dedicated backup circuit can also provide emergency power when the grid goes down.
SENEC.Home V3 Hybrid boasts 2 x MMPT circuits with a current rating of 23A Isc per MPPT, and inverter efficiency of 97.4%. However, it only offers a 3.5kW power rating - less than some other home batteries
Warranty Information
The SENEC.Home V3 Hybrid battery system had a 10 year warranty, which could be be extended to 20 years.
While the company has exited Australia, SENEC says warranties will be honoured and existing on-site systems will continue to receive software updates. Technical support throughout the warranty period will also be honoured by SENEC GmbH.

love the fact that no separate inverters required, all warranties in one under the same cover plate
intelligently supplies home requirements first, leftover for charging after 10am (up to 3kW, stepping down progressively until full), when full, exports surplus to grid
4kW battery supply after dark, any further requirements come from grid (very rare)
able to oversize solar panels to 7kW, ensures full charge in nearly all light conditions by lunchtime
10kWh battery never runs below 60% full overnight
unfortunately we are required to output limit to 3kW by grid provider, but Senec was readily programmed to comply by installer
We are around 98% self sufficient, drawing < 5 units a month from the grid (2 adults and kids have left home), and our 7c/kWh FiT covers this and daily supply charge to negate any power bills
