Finn's Hoymiles Batteries Review & Verdict

Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO

As a single battery, the Hoymiles LB-5D-G2 doesn't have much in the way of power or capacity, but multiple units can be installed in parallel. There's also an issue with missing information, and being a new product, I'll reserve judgement on these batteries until there's some real-world performance data under Australian conditions available.

Hoymiles Batteries: Pros & Cons

  • No AU warranty document when we checked Hoymiles' website.
  • A new release in 2025, so no feedback from installers or customers yet.

About Hoymiles

Probably best known for its microinverters and to a lesser degree, hybrid inverters, China's Hoymiles also dabbles in solar batteries.

Company Info

China's Hoymiles was founded in 2012 by two power electronics majors at Zhejiang University, but it's a reasonably new player in the Australian solar market. The firm says it has 4 manufacturing bases and more than 1,600 employees globally, and ships its products to 190 countries.

Hoymiles Batteries Available In Australia

To kick off 2025, Hoymiles launched a new battery in Australia and for Asia Pacific customers, geared towards home and small commercial applications - the LB-5D-G2.

LB-5D-G2 Specification Highlights

  • Total energy: 5.12 kWh
  • Rated voltage: 51.2V
  • Voltage range: 44.8-58.4V
  • Max. charge/discharge power: 2.56 kWh
  • Peak charge/discharge power: 3.84 kWh (10s)
  • Max number of batteries in parallel: 16
  • Dimensions (W × H × D):  640 × 380 × 145mm
  • Weight: 45 kg
  • Mounting: Wall/floor
  • Charging temperature: 0°C to +50°C
  • Discharging temperature: -20°C to +50°C
  • Protection degree: IP20

So, the LB-5D-G2 isn't a particularly powerful battery, nor does it have a huge amount of capacity as a single unit. Furthermore, it must be installed indoors given its IP (ingress protection) rating. As at early 2025, it wasn't listed on the Clean Energy Council's approved batteries list, which would exclude it from some state incentive programs.

As with its microinverters and hybrid inverters, monitoring and management of the LB-5D-G2 is through the S-Miles Cloud app. Hoymiles says the LB-5D-G2 automatically communicates with a Hoymiles hybrid inverter in the app once installed.

Warranty Information

Hoymiles offers a standard warranty on the LB-5D-G2 of 5 years, which can be extended to 10 years for an extra fee. But buy the battery along with a Hoymiles residential storage inverter and the warranty is extended to 10 years at no extra cost. We couldn't locate a full Australian warranty document at the time of writing, so make sure you sight and review that carefully first before making a purchase decision.
