Company Info
Founded in 2015, Gen Z started out supplying battery systems for the mining industry and other industrial off-grid applications. It then moved into energy storage solutions for residential and commercial purposes; both on- and off-grid. Gen Z says tens of thousands of its batteries are in use around Australia.
The company is based in Western Australia, with its main facility in Malaga - approximately 11 kilometres north of Perth's CBD.
Gen Z Batteries
Gen Z Energy offers a 3 kWh rack-mounted battery (GC48V-060LFP-2RU Series III) with a usable storage capacity of 2.7kWh per module and a maximum power output of 3kW. Designed and engineered in Australia (but manufactured in China), this 48V battery uses Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP/LiFePO4) chemistry, which is safer and more durable than other common chemistry types.
Speaking of safety and durability, each gen Z battery module has a built-in Battery Management System (BMS), which also helps to ensure longevity. If there's an issue, the BMS will kick in, automatically resetting once the condition clears.
As for inverter compatibility, gen Z batteries will work with any model with the right charging parameters to suit the self managed lithium module. They have wide operating temperature limit ranges and can charge from 0° to 55°C and discharge from -20° to 60°C.
While under 3 kWh of usable storage capacity isn't much, but this is a modular system expandable to a whopping 1MWh. If you need that sort of storage for your home, the police would probably take an interest in what you're doing.
Some further details of the gen Z battery can be found on this comparison table that compares solar batteries currently available in Australia. We're confident enough in gen Z that the company is also currently listed on the SQ approved battery brands chart.
Warranty Info
Gen Z modules are warranted for a period of up to ten years or up to 10,000 cycles on a pro-rated basis (whichever comes first). Gen Z says the warranty does not cover installation, removal, shipping or re-installation.
If you experience an issue with your gen Z battery, the first person to contact is your installer. But if that doesn't work out, try contacting the company's head office; the details of which are noted above.
